NaNo 2017 – Day 8 (For Real) – I Can’t Believe I Hit My Goal

First, let me say, yesterday’s post claiming to be my Day 8 update was a lie. It was actually my update for progress up to Day 7. Somewhere (it was the weekend) I got mixed up.

So, onto my REAL Day 8 update.

I think I’m getting more creative as NaNoWriMo moves along despite how stressful and hectic my life is right now.

Does that even make sense? I mean, I’m pushing myself harder than usual to get the writing done plus I’m dealing with the normal day-to-day stuff PLUS I have some personal things going on. How is it possible?

But, I am coming up with new ideas for stories, posts and other interesting things as I’m going. I can only come to the conclusion that this frenzy of activity is kicking my creative brain into overdrive.

Challenges for the Day

Another evening meeting. I went to it directly from work. Then took my wife to the mall to do some early Christmas shopping (yes, I’m one of THOSE people). By the time we got home it was 8:45 PM and I didn’t begin writing until about 9:00 PM.

Number of Words for the Day:  2081 words

I almost stopped at 1,817 words last night. I was tired (seems to be a normal state of being) and it was bed time. I looked at what I’d done and told myself to buck up (little camper) and write a couple hundred more words. That only actually took me about seven minutes and helped me to exceed my daily goal.

One thing I will say about this NaNoWriMo; I haven’t really had an exceptional day. At least not yet. Back in 2014 I managed a 5,300 word day, which has been my high water mark. This year, my best day has been around 2,400.

That being said, it just goes to show that writing every day is more important than having the occasional huge word count day.

How I Hit my Word Total for the Day

I started at 9:00 PM (as mentioned above) and pushed through. I wrote a touch later than usual but not by more than fifteen minutes. People have asked me what is the best time for me to write. Based on the past two days you might think evening works best. The reality is, whenever I can sit uninterrupted for a period of time.

Today’s Goal: 2,200 words (I want to break 20,000 words tonight)

No meetings tonight! Huzzah! I do have an errand to run right after work, but I should have some unimpeded time to put words to paper.

Number of Words to Date: 17,818 words

If I were to do this every day (and never have to edit my work) I could write ~800,000 words per year or about 8 full-length novels.
