I had a minor epiphany. I realized that, because I know I’m trying to write every day and more specifically, hit a word count goal every day, I’m starting to look ahead.
What do I mean by that, exactly?
Well, when I wasn’t setting concrete goals I would need to have some writing done and I would jump on it, usually at the last minute. I wouldn’t give much thought to what was happening until the day of and then it was a mad scramble.
Now, I’m looking at what I have on the calendar. For example, I knew I had a meeting last night so I planned to spend some time after the meeting to write. I wasn’t sure I would have enough, but it worked out. I know Friday is going to be crazy busy. I’m going to have to fit my writing in wherever I can. But I know that going into Friday so it won’t be a surprise.
Challenges for the Day
Evening meeting. It was in that funny time space where you don’t really want to start something new until its over. Didn’t begin writing until about 8:00 PM.
Number of Words for the Day: 2406 words
I was surprised to hit this number frankly. It reminded me that I can write fast, especially when the scene is clear in my head. And this one was full of action so it was really fun.
How I Hit my Word Total for the Day
I started at 8:00 PM (as mentioned above) and just powered through. I took one break (about 10 minutes) in the middle and managed to accomplish something that is pretty okay.
Today’s Goal: 2000 words
I have another meeting tonight and I need to go to the mall to pick something up. That means a likely repeat of yesterday in terms of how the writing will be accomplished.
