Resetting Expectations

I’ve talked about setting goals before. I am a big fan of using goals to succeed in my writing. Sometimes, unfortunately, I lose sight of my goals. It could be because of just about anything. Recently, concerns about my job were…distracting me from my writing. When that happens, it can be hard to get the writing, or whatever project the goal is related to, back underway. When I find myself floundering too long, I try to set a line in the sand to force myself back on track. Adventures In Scouting

I survived the week with my Scout Troop at Canadian Jamboree. That involved living in a tent for seven days, cooking and eating whatever food the jamboree organizers saw fit to provide and keep sixteen scouts in line. It was not my day job but it also wasn’t a holiday. The good news is, when we left for home, everybody said they had various amounts of fun and everyone returned mostly intact. No major incidents or injuries with my crew for which I am grateful. I also returned home with lots of new fodder for stories. Specifically, how kids interact with each other. A Change is as Good as a Rest

Okay, the above title is not always true. Sometimes a change can be very detrimental. Like, if you go from an employed state to unemployed. Still, I think the inherent meaning of the saying has a lot of truth. In essence, sometimes when you are stuck in a rut, doing something different can help you to move forward and start getting things done again. That is actually both the benefit and the disadvantage to having multiple projects on the go all the time. Coming Clean

For the past several months I have been struggling as a writer. There, I’ve said it. I always TRY to stay positive and play through the pain (so to speak), but I’ve finally had to admit to myself that I’ve been less effective lately than I would like. There is a very good reason for this. In March, the company I worked for was purchased.
