NaNo 2017 – Day 6

If you are keeping track you will likely note that I’m missing updates for days 3 – 5. I hope that didn’t frighten you or give you the impression I’m not having any success. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I thought I would do a weekend wrap-up in hopes I could give you a truly amazing weekend total. Alas, while my writing totals were good, they didn’t quite hit the stellar levels I’d hoped for.

For example, Saturday I set a personal goal of 5,000 words for the day. What I actually achieved was 2,443. Pretty good, but not quite what I was hoping for.

That being said, let me give you a brief update of what’s been going on the past few days.

Challenges for the Past Few Days

Family. I have a parent who is failing. The actual level of that parent’s struggles have really only become apparent in the past month. I’ve had to hospitalize my parent twice in the past month. As you can imagine, it has been weighing very heavily on my mind and has been demanding increasing amounts of time and attention.

Number of Words for the Weekend (including Friday):  6943 words

A good total. I had planned to do a lot more than that (like 12,000 over that period) but I’m still satisfied. That puts me at about a +3,000 words for NaNo so far.

How I Hit my Word Total for the Day

I wrote wherever I could. Friday I wrote on the train to work, and in the evening at home. Saturday I had a relaxing day were I staged my writing over the course of the day while watching episodes of “The Orville”. Sunday I wrote a little in the morning, more as we drove to help my parent (my wife drove) and in the evening at the hotel.

Today’s Goal: 2000 words

I know I have a full day ahead of me getting things done for my parent. That means little time during the day to write. I hope I have some brain power left to do a reasonable amount.
