Scouts of the Apocalypse: Zombie War is out to Alpha Readers

I set a goal for myself to complete Scouts of the Apocalypse: Zombie War before Christmas. Then I hit a great writing pattern and it looked like it would be done a bit before that. I reset my goal to finish by December 18th. I managed to finish it December 16th. I had a fantastic final writing sprint, knocking over 3,000 words off on Scouts alone. I finished the day with over 5,000 words total (wrote a short story for a Winter Anthology too). It was a day full of win. Of course, the journey is far from over. Scouts of the Apocalypse: Zombie War is almost done in Draft

I’ve known there would be a sequel to Scouts of the Apocalypse: Zombie Plague since before I ever wrote the book. I’ve even had the broad, overarching story plotted for a long time. It was getting to the actual writing that proved problematic. I made the decision back at the beginning of November that I would have the first draft complete by Christmas. I made a spreadsheet to track my progress and fancied it up by having it calculate how many words I needed every day to hit the mark. Then I wrote new words. I Should Practice What I Preach

I have long believed that the best way to get better as a writer is to write (reading is important too, but writing is where the rubber meets the road). I have also said many times, you can’t edit anything that hasn’t been written down. I haven’t been practicing those beliefs as much as I should be. I have an excuse for that, and believe me, it is an excuse. It’s one I suspect many fledgling professional authors have faced. Time Flies

I just looked at my last post and realized it has been two weeks since I blogged last. TWO WEEKS! How did that ever happen? Is it that I don’t have anything to say? Um…sure, let’s go with that. Or maybe not. In actuality, I have had a couple extremely busy weeks since I last posted. That is, of course, an excuse. Busy or not, if getting a post out was a priority none of the rest of the stuff would have mattered. Unfortunately for the website, everything I was dealing with WAS important. So, I didn’t blog.
