NaNoWriMo – Day 22

You might think that the pressure is off my shoulders now that I’ve hit 50,000 words. In a way you would be right if you thought that. The pressure to win NaNoWriMo is definitely off. Unfortunately, it was replaced by a new kind of pressure.

The pressure to finish and edit my two short stories.

I admit, I have no one to blame but myself for this stress. I meant to write the stories and have them finished in October. What ended up happening is I got lazy and didn’t write them at all (well, maybe lazy is too strong a statement. I took a break after finishing GalaxyBillies).

So here I am. I’m still writing and I’m also including that greatest NaNoSin of editing too. I don’t feel guilty though. I’ve hit the mark so editing (in my world anyway) is allowed.

I hope you all are having a fun and successful NaNoWriMo.

Since the snow is still falling, the drive to work is crazy. I’ve been leaving home earlier than ever and still arriving at work late so no morning writing. Lunchtime commitments have also prevented any writing so I have had to be satisfied with evening only writing.

One of the things I’ve noticed about the frantic pace of NaNoWriMo is, of course, the focus on quality. That makes short story writing somewhat sketchy because every work in a short is important. It has also meant I haven’t had the same ability to think the story through to it’s conclusion. That is something I don’t like so I may rethink writing any short fiction in future NaNo’s. It will entirely depend on how the editing goes over the next few days. If it goes well, then I will do more. Poorly? Well… maybe not.

So a quick update for word count.

Morning: 0

Mid day: 0

Evening: 447 words

NaNoWriMo Total: 50,480 words.
