What Makes a Book? (Pt. 3 – The Cover)

I think we have all seen books covers that make us say, “Wow!” I also know we have all seen book covers that make us shake our heads. The former make us pick up the book while the later make us move away from the shelf. Both are pretty extreme reactions. In some cases, our interest is piqued, while in others, we simply pass by without much thought. Ideally we want the “Wow”, not the, “What were they thinking,” reaction. Get Published Episode 109 – Is JR Murdock a Super Genius or Merely Insane?

JR Murdock, who has done Unorthodox Writing Tips for the show and who also has collaborated on a couple projects with me has, what I consider to be, a crazy goal. He wants to self-publish 28 books in the next 24 months. We talk about his plans and what he has learned about self-publishing. I also have a book review of Lorina Stephens’ Historical Fiction Novel, Shadow Song. That’s today’s episode, but before we get started I wanted to mention that I will be at Balticon this year from May 24th to 27th. If you are also going to attend, please look me up and say ‘hello’. That’s today’s episode. I hope you enjoy it. Show Notes 00:00 — Opening […]

In today’s episode, I speak with my publisher, Lorina Stephens from 5 Rivers Publishing, about the journey a manuscript takes to publication once it has been accepted. You will get a much clearer understanding of why the process can be slow. We also talk about the direction of publishing and books sales. Apologies, but the interview audio is not quite as good as I like. I am also very pleased to have another Unorthodox Writing Tips from JR Murdock. This episode he talks about momentum.   I hope you enjoy the show. Show Notes 00:00 — Opening – Get Published Episode 86 – What Happens After Your Book is Accepted? Of course, not everyone can go to Balticon and some of us decided to have an impromptu virtual convention of our own that we called Balticant. It wasn’t well-planned or even widely attended but the conversations were fantastic and made the whole effort worthwhile. We recorded a few of the sessions and, in this episode, I would like to play the first session where we talk about conventions, […]
