NaNoWriMo – Day 17

Let me lay it all out on the table. I didn’t make my 1,667 words today. I did write some, but not nearly enough.

I actually managed to convince myself that I could have a slow day for a change and now I’m shutting down feeling guilty about it.

Having said that, I had very good output this morning. I managed almost 450 words before I had to brave the blowing snow and go to work. The roads were no worse than yesterday but the drivers were. What is normally a 20 minute commute was 45 today (yesterday too, unfortunately).

Such is life in a northern city, I suppose.

I didn’t have any opportunity to write at lunch time so my word count remained below 500.

Tonight… well, let’s just say that I only managed to write for about thirty minutes tonight. As I mentioned above, I allowed myself to have a slow day. Trust me, it almost killed me to leave words on the table. Both of my short stories and my NaNoNovel are going really well right now so I don’t want to let them sit too long. That and the fact that I’m very close to the finish line makes me want to buckle down and get some serious words onto the page.

I just couldn’t do it tonight. There are simply too many things demanding my attention tonight. I’m too distracted to make a great deal of sense.

And just for the record, I did still manage to exceed 43,000 words today.

Now, I want to deviate from talking NaNo for just a quick moment (and the news is related to NaNo so I think it is justified).

My publisher sent me an email today asking how many books I’m planning for my YA series and a general “what are they about?”  Here is where it is related to NaNoWriMo. I already have three written, all during NaNo. I keep thinking six will be in this series with a couple possible spinoff series later on. The reason she asked me this question is so she can start building branding and a marketing plan for the series. She wants to make sure all the books have a similar look and feel on the cover.

Why is this important? Well, it shows the confidence she has in my series. It tells me that my beloved character will live in several books beyond what I’ve already written. It doesn’t get any cooler than that for me. Must be why I distracted with a goofy grin on my face.

Today’s stats:

Morning total: 443 words

Mid day total: 0

Evening total: 1017 words

Day’s total: 1460 words

NaNoToDate total: 43,028 words.

  1. Regarding your word count, here is my advice. Stop. Stressing.

I know that that is not you, but you write what you can, when you can. You have already exceeded the word count, so you have a cushion. This is a Good Thing! Writing 500 is tons better than writing 0 words.

Heck even if you write 10 words, I’d applaud you. I think you’re doing fantastic. And as your ML, I’m allowed to say that (so there ;p).

But seriously, keep up the good work.

Also, I’m so excited to hear that your publisher is as interested in your books as she is!! That’s fantastic. Good for you!! Good times are smiling upon you, dear friend. 🙂
