Last week I received the revisions from my lovely editor for Scouts of the Apocalypse: Zombie War. Ordinarily, I’m am of mixed feelings about revisions. On the one hand, revisions let me make my story better; I’m able to add some of the nuances that I missed the first time. More detail and more emotion tend to find their way into the story. Plot holes are plugged Sometimes the book goes in a slightly different direction, which has the feeling of entering an alternate dimension (I’m trying to put it in the best possible light here). On the other hand, revisions mean I’m ripping apart my precious story. It is work that doesn’t always feel productive and…well, simply put, it […]

Scouts of the Apocalypse: Zombie War is almost done in Draft
I’ve known there would be a sequel to Scouts of the Apocalypse: Zombie Plague since before I ever wrote the book. I’ve even had the broad, overarching story plotted for a long time. It was getting to the actual writing that proved problematic. I made the decision back at the beginning of November that I would have the first draft complete by Christmas. I made a spreadsheet to track my progress and fancied it up by having it calculate how many words I needed every day to hit the mark. Then I wrote new words. And then I let it sit for almost a week-and-a-half. The entire time it sat, I agonized about it; why wasn’t I writing? So, after […]

I’ve been away from writing new work for a while and it is weighing heavily on me. I haven’t added any words to Scouts 2, Jack Kane 2 or anything on Wattpad. Why? Cause I’m a publisher now too. You probably already know this but, my partner Jeffrey Hite and I started the press, Evil Alter Ego Press (EAEP) just over a year ago. Last year we published three books. This year it will be more (four in the next four months or so). Granted, three of those books were previously printed by another publisher but we still need to go through all the right steps to ensure quality books come out the other end. That means editing, proofing, layout and […]

I was going to title this post, “Mik Murdoch and the Power Within is Finished” but that really isn’t true. I still have to do a polishing edit before I send it to my publisher and editor. Once they have it, it will be edited/revised/re-edited to within an inch of its life. Then it will get a cover and layout followed by release as and ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) for review and finally it will be available for sale. That means we are still a few months away from it being generally available. The book ended up finishing at slightly more than 65,000 words, 29,000 of which I wrote during my vacation (which ended yesterday, unfortunately). What the final, published count […]
