This weekend marks the third When Words Collide (A Festival for Readers and Writers). For those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to attend, it is one of my favorite conventions. It started out fantastic and has only gotten better. I approach these types of events with several goals in mind: meet and network with people – this is a wonderful opportunity to meet my readers and get to know other writers, editors, publishers and marketers in a friendly environment. Still Largely Clueless
I have been writing and trying to market and promote my work for a long time. Note, I said “Trying”. Despite the amount of time and effort I’ve put in to getting my work in front of people and increase my profile, I still feel like I have no idea. Really. No idea at all. I’ve been doing some experimenting with my writing the past while. Not the mad scientist experimenting (that happened when Jeff Hite and I brought out A Method to the Madness: A Guide to the Super Evil), but trying out new things to see what might work out for me. In this case, the experimenting has been around marketing and promotion, two things I tend to be very bad at for my own work. I can talk up other people and their work until the cows come home, but I always seem to have difficulty talking myself up. But I digress. Lately I have been reaching out more to agencies that can shelve my books (the latest was the local public […]
