NaNoWriMo – Day 11

I went back to writing first thing in the morning today. The problem I had was I’ve almost hit the end of my existing plotting for my NaNoNovel. So I wrote what I could and I began to look at what I need to do for the next portion of the story. It was also Remembrance Day today in Canada so I spent time reflecting on what that means to me. So many men and women have served in the armed forces so I can be free, it’s very humbling. My dad was in the Navy, my maternal grandfather was in the Army and my paternal great grandfather fought in the Boer War so my family has a history of […]

NaNoWriMo – Day 10

The frenzied pace of NaNoWriMo has caught up to me just a little today. I sat down this morning and looked at what I had left for plot elements in my story and knew that I was almost to the point where I either: a) do more plotting or, b) totally wing it and probably end up throwing most of the writing away in edits. Now, I am not adverse to rewriting. In fact, I’ve already written one scene twice and I’ll decide later which I like better. Publishers, editors, agents, and yes, even writers are all human. They have a finite amount of time to try and wrestle a (seemingly) infinite amount of work into. Take a publisher for example. The publisher has to find work good enough to put into print, then put said work under contract (which will involve some level of negotiations), match […]

NaNoWriMo – Day 9

I’m thrilled that I’m still enthusiastic about NaNoWriMo. I am quite a bit ahead of the recommended daily word count and it would be so easy to starting slacking off. Instead, I feel like I’m getting stronger every day. It’s interesting that the story I’m writing is beginning to gain additional characters, plot points and all the other miscellania that can make it so interesting. I have new threads that could really make the book grown huge if unchecked or lead to all sorts of possibilities. That is why I write. I love getting surprised by my own subconscious. I was able to do a bit of writing this morning. Despite my best efforts, I haven’t had a lot of […]
