As you may know, J.R. Murdock and I collaborated a couple years ago on a book. We wrote what we hoped would be the first book in a new YA/Steampunk/Superhero series. Writing as a team was a real learning experience with ups and downs, but we managed to finish the book, currently titled “Jack Kane and the Statue of Liberty”. J.R. wrote the protagonist POV and I wrote the antagonist. The story went through several editorial iterations before we felt it was ready to submit. And submit we did! Get Published Episode 122 – Gail Carriger Talks Series Writing
One of the best things about going to conventions for me is getting the chance to talk to people. For example, 3-years ago at Balticon, I was lucky enough to meet and talk to Gail Carriger. The unfortunate part of that was, I met her on the very last day, at lunch, just prior to leaving for home. I took that opportunity to invite Gail onto Get Published and she graciously agreed to an interview. That was episode 47 which aired December 25th, 2010. Ever since that conversation, I have watched Gail’s career with interest, hoping that our paths would cross again one day. Imagine my delight when I learned that not only will Gail and I both be at […]

Covers are a very important part of any book. A good cover can intrigue and encourage readers to try a book they might not otherwise look at and a bad one might just cause that same reader to pass it by. In today’s show, I talk to Cover Designer, writer, voice artist and podcaster, Starla Huchton about covers and what she thinks are important considerations. We also talk about how taking a chance in a writing contest has given valuable exposure to her writing. I also talk about something that I hadn’t really thought about before and that is an author’s signing survival kit. That’s today’s episode. I hope you enjoy it. Show Notes 00:00 — Opening – Get Published […]

We both knew each other virtually through Twitter and through each other’s writing, but we had never really talked. So, I extended the invitation to JR and we began to discuss the pros and cons of working together on a book. The first thing we had to nail down was what the book would actually be about. Seems like an obvious thing to know going in, don’t you think? The truth was, we knew it had to have humour in it, it had to be fantastic and that was about it. The idea of Steampunk was probably one of the […]
