I talked last week about experimenting with my writing to find what works and what doesn’t. One of the experiments I mentioned was the use of Wattpad to bring my story, Boyscouts of the Apocalypse out. Well, I am happy to say, the entire story is now available to read. Oh, and did I mention it’s free? Yes, that’s right, free to read. So far, I’ve had over a thousand reads which is pretty cool. It has already had a bigger audience than it did as a podcast. I hope that it continues to find more readers over the course of the next few months too. So, what are my plans going forward with this story? Well, I still plan […]

Experimenting
I’ve been doing some experimenting with my writing the past while. Not the mad scientist experimenting (that happened when Jeff Hite and I brought out A Method to the Madness: A Guide to the Super Evil), but trying out new things to see what might work out for me. In this case, the experimenting has been around marketing and promotion, two things I tend to be very bad at for my own work. Take some past examples: Interviewing folks for Get Published has resulted in book contracts. Tweets and then follow-up conversations has resulted in an Anthology (A Method to the Madness: A Guide to the Super Evil). Tweets and then follow-up conversations has resulted in a Steampunk novel (Jack Kane and the Statue of Liberty, co-written with JR Murdock). Facebook posts and then follow-up conversations resulted in Action […]

(Warning, this post contains a multitude of links) I’ve been hearing about Wattpad a LOT over the past months/year. My good friend Aaron Kite has several of his novels up on the site and even won the Watty Award for his novel, ‘A Touch of Poison’ (which I highly recommend, BTW). Ever since hearing about it, I’ve been considering how to best approach Wattpad. I mean, what are the ramifications to putting one of my stories up there to readers and publishers alike? Do I actually have a novel polished enough to publish in this way. What if the other kids don’t like me? It is sometimes easy, especially for me, to procrastinate to the point that nothing EVER […]
