Mik Murdoch 4 is Coming Along Nicely

Mik Murdoch 4 – Surprise NaNoWriMo Book

I wasn’t planning to do NaNoWriMo this year. I was going to take my sweet time and write Mik Murdoch 4 at my own pace.

But then, November 1st (the first day of NaNoWriMo) it occurred to me that doing it over NaNo would see the first draft finished in November. That would allow me to let it sit for a couple weeks and still have an edited version before end-of-year.

That thought was very appealing to me.

So, I took the 12,000 words I already had finished and put them aside. I’m not throwing those away. Not at all. What I’m doing is I’m using NaNo to add another 50,000 to the first 12,000. That will see the book finished.

For Those Purists Out There

NaNoWriMo purists might say that because that book was already started, it doesn’t count. That’s fine. You’re welcome to your opinion. For me, it’s the 50,000 brand-new words that are important along with having a finished book to edit.

For me, NaNoWriMo has always been about lighting that fire and getting brand new words down. It has never mattered whether you work on one story or twenty to get those 50,000 words either. Whatever motivates you.

NaNoWriMo is Important for Me

I will say that NaNoWriMo is an important motivator for me. Mik Murdoch, Boy Superhero was a NaNoNovel. So was Mik Murdoch: The Power Within. Oh wait. It turns out Mik Murdoch: Crisis of Conscience also was written during NaNoWriMo.

I think I’m seeing a pattern here.

I have written other things during NaNoWriMo but clearly, it works well to help me get the words down. So, whether I started at 0 or at 12,000, it is a very valuable tool.

Are you participating this year? I’d love to hear how you are doing.
