NaNoWriMo – Day 9

I’m thrilled that I’m still enthusiastic about NaNoWriMo. I am quite a bit ahead of the recommended daily word count and it would be so easy to starting slacking off. Instead, I feel like I’m getting stronger every day. It’s interesting that the story I’m writing is beginning to gain additional characters, plot points and all the other miscellania that can make it so interesting. I have new threads that could really make the book grown huge if unchecked or lead to all sorts of possibilities. That is why I write. I love getting surprised by my own subconscious. I was able to do a bit of writing this morning. Despite my best efforts, I haven’t had a lot of […]

NaNoWriMo – Day 8

I can’t say that I had the same flurry of activity today that I had yesterday. I did spend some time this morning writing and a bit more at noon. Tonight I’ve also managed quite a few words so, all in all I’ve definitely had a solid day. I ran across an article where the writer claimed to be a lover and hater of NaNoWriMo. She made a few comments to the effect of writing quantity versus quality is really the opposite of what a real writer should do. You see, on the way out to the camp I was thinking about the fact that we are extremely secluded from civilization where we go. It’s not that civilization is hundreds of miles away or anything. It’s just that we are in an area where radio signal is poor to non-existent and cellphone coverage is […]

NaNoWriMo – Day 6

I really wanted to hit my 1667 words every day of NaNoWriMo this year. I wanted to not miss a single day working toward my writing total. I realized today, that goal is not achievable. At least, not this year. Too many commitments. Too many demands on my time. For example, today (early morning, actually) I set off on my second Boy Scout camp of the young scouting season. This time we are doing a survival shelter camp where the scouts learn techniques to keep the elements off them in case they ever actually are in a survival situation. It is a bit staged; we’re not allowed to cut any standing trees (that’s both dead and alive, in case you’re […]
