Review: Mrs Bradshaw’s Handbook by Terry Pratchett

Mrs Bradshaw’s Handbook isn’t a typical novel. In fact, it isn’t a novel at all. Instead, it is a companion book to Terry Pratchett’s extremely rich Discworld universe. Mrs Bradshaw’s Handbook was originally mentioned in Terry Pratchett’s novel, Raising Steam. For the uninitiated, Raising Steam is the book about the invention of the railroad on the Discworld. Mrs Bradshaw is a widowed lady of means who is smitten by rail travel who endeavours to write a traveler’s book for all who wish to follow in her footsteps. The Shepherd’s Crown – A Review

Terry Pratchett has long been a favorite author of mine. Once I discovered him (in my early 20’s) I couldn’t get enough of his books. Of his 41 Discworld books, I have read 41, most several times. This, is book number 41. There will be no book 42 as Sir Terry passed away in March. You can find it at: http://argylebooks.blogspot.ca/2014/06/first-book-review-galaxy-billies-by.html?showComment=1404137955600

Book Review: Dreadnaught (The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier, #1)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars I fell in love with Jack Campbell’s series “The Lost Fleet” and knew at its conclusion that I would have to read “The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier” when it was published. I did not get the chance to start reading the series until just last week. As was the case with his previous series, once I started reading the book, I couldn’t put it down. This series is SciFi Military reading candy at it best. So, what do I like about it? Well, besides interesting characters, an intriguing mystery and well-written battles (not to mention lots of well thought out studies on human responses to emprisonment) it doesn’t have much to recommend it. […]
