How Am I Doing In December After NaNoWriMo?

I know that solid, well-defined goals drive me forward. They give me a sense of urgency that is hard to ignore. I should have created solid, well-defined goals for December after my wildly successful November. Alas, I didn’t do that and my writing, while consistent, has suffered a little. My plan (note, I didn’t say “goal”) for December was to finish one book (needed about 6,000 words to do that) edit two books (one of them my NaNo novel) and continue work on a third. I did finish the one book. I have continued to work on the third book (so far adding about 6,000 words to it) and I’ve set myself up to edit one of the two. Not […]

Making Progress

I have a number of writing projects on the go right now and I’m excited to say, forward progress is being made. The first of those projects is the sequel to the novel I co-wrote with JR Murdock. That book is Jack Kane and the Statue of Liberty, a steampunk/superhero/YA novel. We started writing the sequel a year ago and, due to a number of life complications for us both, we stopped writing over the summer. Well, we are close to 25% finished our first draft and I’ve got to say, it is better than the first (and let me tell you, the first was some of the most fun writing I’ve ever had I’ve ever done). You see, I was having lunch with my friend, Leah Crichton and we were talking about various things. Leah said those very words and I had an epiphany. I realized right then that feeling that way was actually a very good thing. I suppose it may have been the context of the conversation that did it. So here is my rationale. When you take a step forward, you are making progress. Maybe you have been trying to find a publisher or agent or a new job. When […]

Progress

Progress can mean different things to different people. For some, it might mean people are just a little more tolerant of each other. For others it means that technology continues to move forward and our lives are getting easier and better. For me? Well, I tend not to think on quite that grand a scale. Progress for me is, I weigh a little less today than I did a month ago. I’m actually sleeping through the night and I’m almost finished the latest revision of Mik Murdoch: The Power Within. In fact, all of the above are true which makes this a Wednesday worth celebrating. I’ve also made some strides forward on a few things of a less quantitative nature. For example, I […]
