I think I’ve identified one of my problems when it comes to getting my writing routine into a…well, routine. I’ve let that little devil on my shoulder have way too much say – when the day and/or writing are becoming a slog, I let that voice talk me into either stopping, doing the minimum or finding something much more pleasant to give my time to. Day 1 I went into the challenge a bit anxious but eager to go. The writing I did flowed well and I’m pretty happy with where it took me. Day 2…not so much. The ideas weren’t really there when I started. I wanted to quit. After all, the challenge is 30 days. Surely I could […]

Mik Murdoch 4 is Coming Along Nicely
Mik Murdoch 4 – Surprise NaNoWriMo Book I wasn’t planning to do NaNoWriMo this year. I was going to take my sweet time and write Mik Murdoch 4 at my own pace. But then, November 1st (the first day of NaNoWriMo) it occurred to me that doing it over NaNo would see the first draft finished in November. That would allow me to let it sit for a couple weeks and still have an edited version before end-of-year. That thought was very appealing to me. So, I took the 12,000 words I already had finished and put them aside. I’m not throwing those away. Not at all. What I’m doing is I’m using NaNo to add another 50,000 to the […]

When I first took the NaNoWriMo challenge back in 2005 I was worried. Worried I didn’t have the right (or is it write?) stuff to succeed. I had just spent seven years completing my first novel. How could I possibly write another (albeit shorter) novel in just thirty days? I did my research – I read everything I could about NaNo – including strategies on how to win. I also saw a lot of the Poo Pooing some of the professional authors of the day were doing. “Only junk can be written so quickly.” “It is a waste of time.” “Just a bunch of wannabes pretending to be real writers.” Those were only a few of the negative comments I […]

I wasn’t planning on doing NaNoWriMo this year. I kept reminding myself that I have too many other demands on my time. Then, on Sunday, I started anyway. Who needs a life anyhow, right? 🙂 Seriously though, one of my projects on the go is the second book in the Scouts of the Apocalypse trilogy. I actually tested the story out on my Scouts already so it was time to write it. I really want it out in early 2016 so it made sense to get that added kick in the pants NaNoWriMo offers. As you can see by my attached screenshot, Sunday was a good writing day. I plan to have many more of those. So, if you are […]
