I know I’ve talked about NanoWriMo before (last week in fact) but let me talk about it one more time. In 10 days NanoWriMo will once again take place. I will, once again, go into battle (with myself) and try to write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days. This will be my fourth year participating and last year I toiled with over 120,000 others. So what is NanoWriMo? As you may have guessed, the crux of NanoWriMo is to write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days. That equates to 1,667 words per day, every day for the month of November. But is that ALL NanoWriMo represents? I think not. NanoWriMo was started in 1999 by Chris Baty and some friends. […]

Gearing Up For the Next Project
The thing I’ve noticed about myself is I never have any shortage of ideas (probably like everyone else in the world). What I have a definite shortage of is time; lately I’ve been spending countless hours editing my novel and preparing each episode of my podcast. I enjoy doing both, but it isn’t quite the same as the thrill of starting anew story. That’s why it’s with a certain level of excitement that I begin looking forward to my next project. Now, how many of you have been to a convention where another writer or a publisher or an editor or an agent has been a guest, a panel participant or a known quantity? And what did you do at that convention? Did you meet any of the aforementioned people? I attended ConVersion (a local SciFi/Fantasy convention) not too long ago. My goal was to meet one of the publishers who I knew to be coming and maybe meet Terry Brooks. Let me begin by saying that I am not the most outgoing person alive. Still, I went […]

Hello Everyone. It is with a certain amount of nervousness that I present this episode. You see, I’m away on holidays but I didn’t want to leave you hanging. What to do? I decided that maybe it was high time I put a piece of my fiction up. The story is one that I wrote about 10 years ago. It was originally done to “study” the world I was creating for my first novel. I wanted to get an understanding of how the culture worked, gods and so on. It seemed pretty good when I finished it and I ultimately sent it out to a magazine. Thus it became my first rejection. Recording it, I have realized just how far […]
