I came to the realization last week that at this point in my writing career I would much rather have reviews than sales. I know that sounds odd, but there’s a very good reason I say that. The more reviews a books has (specifically on Amazon) the more likely it is to be featured and actually show up in someone’s recommendations (who isn’t associated with the author). I always find it laugh-worthy when Amazon recommends my own books to me, especially when I realize I’m probably one of the few people getting that recommendation. I either laugh or I cry. Leave a Tip on Your Way Out
In North America tipping is a common (in most cases, expected) thing in restaurants. You get good service, you leave a gratuity for the server. The theory is (created by and propagated by the hotel and restaurant industries) that serving staff is making minimum wage, works hard and should have their income subsidized by tips. Before you go thinking I am anti-tipping, I’m not. I was a server in my youth and I was making minimum wage. The tips made a difference. It’s just unfortunate that this is a manufactured thing much like *name that Hallmark Holiday*. Today, I’m going ask you to consider tipping those authors whose work you enjoy. I actually started writing this post several days ago. Except, at that time, I was writing it more as a rant than anything that might be useful. Let me begin by explaining why I was upset and felt the need (which I overcame…eventually) to write a rant. Reviews are extremely important to anyone with a product. Books, as you might guess, are products – they are the result of a lot of work, creativity, (more) work and stress, but they are products nonetheless.
