NaNoWriMo 2015

If you’ve ever wanted to challenge yourself in your writing, I highly encourage you to try NaNoWriMo this year. In a nutshell, NaNoWriMo is a self-challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. Sounds impossible? It really isn’t. Especially because their is a wonderful website (http://nanowrimo.org/) that helps you track your words, connects you to other writers taking the challenge AND provides emails of encouragement the entire month. I have actually won NaNo five times (or is it six) since I started doing it. In fact, two of my NaNo novels have gone on to be published. Alas, I won’t be officially participating this year. Get Published – So Long and Thanks for All the Fish

I’ve been struggling to decide what to do with Get Published. My writing demands (on my time) have been growing over the past couple years and, since no one seems to be willing to increase the number of hours in the day, I’ve had to start prioritizing my projects. A number of factors are telling me it is time to end Get Published. What they are isn’t important. What is important is knowing when it is time to end the show. Book Stores have Changed

I know this probably doesn’t come as any revelation to any of you, but the modern book store is much different than stores of yesteryear. I was sitting in an Indigo store (Canadian book chain) and it was very interesting to see how things have changed. Since the inception of coffee shops in bookstores, the entire dynamic is different. Books hold less of a central spot in the store. Toys, games and assorted items are now for sale. But why? After a day in the store, I think I can start to put my finger on it. The Shepherd’s Crown – A Review

Terry Pratchett has long been a favorite author of mine. Once I discovered him (in my early 20’s) I couldn’t get enough of his books. Of his 41 Discworld books, I have read 41, most several times. This, is book number 41. There will be no book 42 as Sir Terry passed away in March. I haven’t quite come to terms with that yet, so this will simply be a review of the book, not a commentary on what the man has meant to me.
