Where do I begin?

Where do I begin? Those words ran through my mind as I prepared to write my first post in months.

It isn’t like I haven’t thought about posting.

Honest.

But, I haven’t posted. I’ve been working on a variety of things, most not writing related unfortunately. There are the normal family activities, maintenance activities, work and volunteering.

Note, I said most were not writing related. Not all.

I have a project nearing completion that I am more excited about than any book I can think of. I have my first children’s picture book ready for release in February.

Why am I so excited about this book?

That is a question I ask myself regularly.  There are two reasons that come to mind.

  1. I’ve wanted to do a book like this for at least eight years. There was a period of time where I had a story ready and an illustrator interested in doing the book. For reasons not important, the book was never done. It may be done someday but I’m not really expecting that to be the case. I’ve made my peace with it but the desire to do a children’s picture book has remained.
  2. This story is special to me. It is inspired by my grand daughter and was written especially for her. I HOPE she will love it. I THINK she will love it. That nagging voice in the back of my head is not being as supportive of those hopes and thoughts as I would necessarily like. Still, I can’t wait for it to be released and give it to her.

What is this book about?

I will tell you that in a future post (which I will definitely be doing). Suffice it to say, it is age appropriate for young children and my grand daughter features prominently in it.

Why am I being so tight-lipped?

Would you believe, to build dramatic tension? No?

How about, I want to entice you with how the story came to be along with how I was able to pull it together? As I mentioned at the beginning, I haven’t posted in a while. I’d like to give you an interesting narrative over the coming days. I won’t make you wait too long. In fact, let me tell you now, the next post in a couple days will talk about meeting my illustrator and working through that process.

Until then…
