One of the best things about going to conventions for me is getting the chance to talk to people. For example, 3-years ago at Balticon, I was lucky enough to meet and talk to Gail Carriger. The unfortunate part of that was, I met her on the very last day, at lunch, just prior to leaving for home.
I took that opportunity to invite Gail onto Get Published and she graciously agreed to an interview. That was episode 47 which aired December 25th, 2010. Ever since that conversation, I have watched Gail’s career with interest, hoping that our paths would cross again one day.
Imagine my delight when I learned that not only will Gail and I both be at On Spec November 16th and 17th, we will also be on a panel together. That seemed like a sign that I needed to get Gail back on the show again. I invited Gail and I am delighted to say, she accepted!
We talk about a lot of things including fashion in fiction, writing multiple series in the same world and steampunk. It was a fun conversation.
I also talk about the importance of picking the events you chose for public appearances. I have had a couple experiences the past months that have proven the importance of being chosey.
And one last thing before we get started. I have two short stories coming out this month in two anthologies. The first story is titled, The 13th Spell and is in the anthology: Lucky or Unlucky: 13 Stories of Fate. It features a favorite character of mine, Charlie the Apprentice Wizard. The second story is titled, Tainted Hooch and is in the anthology Dirty Magick: Los Angeles, which will be available later this month. That story has a brand-new character for me. One I think I will write about again.
If you have a chance, check them out. I would love your feedback on either or both.
And with that little bit of self-promotion, let’s get on with today’s episode. I hope you enjoy it.
