A couple years ago, JR Murdock and I wrote a book together. The suggestion to do so came, as I’m finding many of my projects do, via Twitter. A mutual friend, DanDanTheArtMan said we should write together.

I thought about the idea, liked it and approached JR about it. In short order we had a working plot hammered out and an idea of how to do it. We started the actual writing during NaNoWriMo of that year.

The resulting draft needed a lot of work but we both knew we had something fun. Even better, we had both enjoyed the experience of writing together so we starting plotting a second book for the day when we sold the first one.

Well, in the new year, we will be starting to write the second book. That is because this week, we signed a book

deal with Champagne Books to publish Jack Kane and the Statue of Liberty. Jack Kane is a real mashup including Steampunk, Superhero, YA and Adventure elements. It includes one of my favourite characters to date, a sort of Victorian Dr. Evil. We cannot wait to share it with you. You will hear more about it in a future episode of Get Published.

You will also be hearing about another Twitter-spawned project that Jeff Hite and I are undertaking starting January 1. Jeff and I talk about it in the Tips and Typos section.

Lastly, and definitely not least, I had the privilege to speak with Jake Bible for this episode. We talk about Jake’s variety of work including his new series Z-Burbia.
