It’s OK to Delete

Have you ever heard the phrase “Kill your darlings”? If you haven’t or if you have but don’t quite understand what it means, it refers to deleting writing that is dear to you but doesn’t really add anything to your writing project. It is something that I have never liked doing. Every word on the page represents blood and sweat and effort that I have put into a specific piece of work. The Quest for Publication

My goal to get my work published and on bookstore shelves is pretty all-consuming. I’m always trying to learn new tricks and tips for the writing industry and I’m continuously trying to meet and connect with other people in the writing world. I’ve called it a journey in the past but, if I really think about it, this is more of a quest. But what is the difference? To me, a journey means travelling from point A to B to C to (eventually) Z. Goals for the Coming Year

The start of a new year is traditionally the time we sit down and make resolutions about how we’re going to make ourselves better in the coming year. I am all for introspection and making plans for improvements, but the whole resolution thing simply doesn’t work for me. Making a resolution to lose 75 pounds, get 15% better looking and appear on the cover of “GQ” has never seemed terribly useful to me. And while it is traditional to make resolutions, it is also part of the tradition is to “cheat on the resolution”. That seems pretty counter-productive to me.
