Second Guessing

I want to begin by saying I am not trying to come across as being insecure about my writing or myself.

Honest.

But, the truth of the matter is, I’m second guessing myself and Mik Murdoch: And the Power Within. I’m doing that despite the fact that I KNOW the book is better written than Mik Murdoch, Boy Superhero (which is a totally awesome book you should buy it, <deep inhalation>).

I think part of the second guessing is, so many people have enjoyed and had good things to say about Mik 1. I don’t want to let any of them down with a book that doesn’t meet with their expectations.

So, how am I dealing with it?

Well, I have faith in my editor for one thing. I know Robert Runte’ will make me fix any mistakes I make. I also know that if a scene or section of the book is a bit slow or redundant or whatever, he is going to call me on it. When we are done editing it, the book will be something my readers can enjoy as much (or more) as the first one.

I’ve also just put my head down and started working through everything, ensuring there are no continuity errors, I use the little foreshadowing bits to their proper effect and that the manuscript is as clean as it can be.

Just a little teaser here: I know I will be getting edits. I doubt there are too many manuscripts that are perfect the first go. So, for those of you who have subscribed to my newsletter, you will be getting an inside look at the editing process. When the edits start coming in, I will be sharing comments from sections of the book and what I did to fix the problems. Hopefully, that will help you with your own writing.

But, if you aren’t subscribed (and why wouldn’t you be, I ask you?), those inside tips will be all a dream.

Now, into the backseat, doubts. I cast thee aside.
