Why Publishing is Slow: the Experience

As you probably know, I’ve been working towards the goal of getting published for several years now. Last year I had some success with my short stories, managing to get three of them accepted by various e-magazines and digital sites. That success only encouraged me to work harder to get my books in front of publishers to try and get them published as well. Then, in October, I received my first book contract for my YA Superhero novel, “Mik Murdoch, Boy Superhero”. The book is the first in what I expect to be a six-book series. Crossing the Streams

I’ve blogged and podcast and Tweeted many times about networking and the importance of reaching out to meet new people. It is always very rewarding to meet new people and build those online relationships. It is even more cool (for me, anyway) when someone reaches out to me. James Melzer is the award-winning author of Escape: A Zombie Chronicles novel which is coming to print in 2012 from Simon & Schuster and Permuted Press. I’ve been meaning to have James on the show almost since the show began, but it never quite happened. That oversight has been taken care of in this episode. I also received a question from @K_A_Dewberry on Twitter that I discuss in the “Tips and Typos” section. It’s a question I get a lot. Namely, “when should I start building my platform”. I also wanted to give you all an update on my book’s progress. As you […]

Not Enough Hours in the Day

One of the things that always gets my creative juices flowing is the chance to meet and talk with other creative types, especially writers. That being said, you can imagine how much fun I had last night talking to the good folks at Flying Island Press on the Galley Table. This wasn’t my first time on the show, but it was the first time my co-writer and collaborator JR Murdock and I were on a show together. It is also the first time my alter-ego (JAHite on Twitter) and I appeared on the show at the same time. Let me begin by explaining the inside joke of JAHite and alter-ego. I made a comment a few weeks ago that Jeff […]
