I attended my first writing convention as a published author last weekend. I have heard other writers say how everything changes once you are published so I wasn’t sure what to expect. While there were subtle differences in the way people I know treated me (greeted several times as a “world-famous author”), people who did not know me treated me much the same. That is, until they learned I was a published author. Then they had lots of questions. Even so, not much different. What was different was the way I saw things. I now had a book to promote and sell. I had to be “on” all the time. It was both exhilarating and exhausting at the same time. […]

Start Your Engines
Today is the day. Yup, one of my life’s ambitions has officially been achieved. Today, Mik Murdoch, Boy Superhero is available for purchase in both paper and electronic format. Where you ask? Is it in bookstores? The answer is, “Probably not” and I am just fine with that. It IS available for order from practically every bookstore (both virtual and real) on the planet however. That is the most important thing to me. I’m not doing an Amazon rush or anything like that. At least, not intentionally. I definitely would like to see it climb high in the rankings, if for only a little while. And, of course, I would like to see it continue to sell for many months/years […]

Now that the book is done and totally out of my hands, those common doubts are surfacing: will people enjoy the story? will they even know the book exists? will it sell? I know of good, well-known authors who have done everything in their power to spread the word only to have their book fall flat sales-wise. It wasn’t a fault of the book, the cover or anything […]

I am now able to say, Mik Murdoch, Boy Superhero, is done. At least, all of the writing , revision and proofing. That, of course, just means I have finished another chapter in the road to publication. There are still many, MANY things to do: Prepare and send out Advanced Reader Copies (ARC’s) for review (Lorina Stephens is working on that as I type, I am sure); Create a book trailer; Get publicity for myself and the book; Book launch; Write the next book in the series. Am I missing anything? Undoubtably. As I have never done this before, everything is new to me. I am pretty sure I have left a few things out. So, let’s talk about book […]
