News for 2026 – Getting back on the horse

I’m sure if I really looked, I could tell you exactly when I fell off the horse (posting-wise and otherwise). The horse stopped, looked me in the eye as I lay on the ground and eventually wandered off.

For those of you who don’t know the saying, it is, “When you fall off the horse, you get right back on and try again.” That’s great when you REALLY want to ride the horse. But, I’d been posting updates for a long time and really didn’t feel like I had anything worthwhile to share.

I’m getting back on the horse at long last. It took some time to find the horse and I hope I can stay in the saddle for a while this time.

So, enough about horses.

Did my first school visit of the year

I was invited to do a writing workshop on ideation this week. It has been a year since I last stepped into the classroom so I agreed. I always have fun with the kids and this time was no exception. The teacher told me the kids enjoyed my visit and are already asking when I’ll come back. Who knows but it is nice to be wanted. 🙂

Going to the Calgary Comic Expo again this year

I will be sharing a table with my friend, Simon Rose, again this year. I WILL have a new book and possibly some new merch too. I’m excited at the possibilities.

Which leads to…

I have completed major edits on Mik Murdoch 5 (titled Mik Murdoch: Shifting Alliances)!

If you don’t know, this is a HUGE deal for me. I started writing it 5 years ago, just before COVID really hit. It took me until last year to finally type “the end” in the book. But I had so many starts and stops it really wasn’t a cohesive book. That made editing it hard especially when I kept having life events interrupt the edits.

Yesterday, I edited a chapter (finally got past the half-way point in edits before Christmas – I don’t know if any of you have ever experienced this but I would get to about chapter 15 and then get interrupted. When I finally got back to editing, the time between was enough that I started over again at chapter 1 and would get to about chapter 15 and I’d be diverted to something else once again. It was a viscous circle that meant I never completed editing the book – but I REALLY had a well polished first half).

Anyway, I felt good about the progress I was making so, after supper, I tried another chapter and was delighted to discover that it as well as the next three were in great shape. So, I pounded through those too. Then I realized only had three chapters to go and it wasn’t bedtime yet so…long story short, I finished my edits.

I expect my editor to pick out a few things in the second half of the book for additional material/rewrite, but that is okay. The book finally flows from chapter 1 to chapter 34 and has an ending I like. What more could I ask for?

All that being said, I’m extremely optimistic that Mik 5 will be available for sale/purchase at the 2026 Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo.

Book layout is mostly done. I just need to finish final edits (which I hope to have by end-of-month February). I already have a cover. Getting it published won’t take Evil Alter Ego Press long to complete (I hope).

Glad to have you with me

Glad to be back with something to post. I hope you’ll bring you horse up along side and join me. I’d love to hear from you about anything. How is your life going? Do you have any challenges you want to share? Any victories to celebrate?

Let me know. I’m still here.
