I had the privilege to talk to David Laderoute. David is a Geologist, retired Lieutenant Colonel from the Canadian Army Reserves, entrepreneur and a writer. He has several short stories in print in various small press publications and has written extensively for role-playing games. He is active on Wattpad and his debut novel, Out of Time was released by Five Rivers Publishing in December of 2013. We had a great conversation that I think you will get a lot out of. I’ve also been working my way through first revisions of Mik Murdoch: The Power Within for my editor for almost two months now. I won’t deny that I find revisions to be somewhat grueling. You need to consider what […]

Revising Mik Murdoch: The Power Within
As you may or may not know, I’ve been working on revising Mik Murdoch: The Power Within for the past two months. It has been a much more difficult thing to do than writing the original book. That is largely because, with every change I make, I need to first think about how it will impact the book. Does the change need to have anything added earlier so it makes sense? Usually when it does, the villain is pretty two-dimensional. Trying to add additional depth often fails because, at his or her core is a being that wrings his/her hands and has a laugh reminiscent of MWAHAHAHA! So, just as an exercise, I decided to try and create a character who is a normal, flawed person like you and me. He is friendly, intelligent and well-educated. He doesn’t have warts […]

Happy Groundhog Day to those of you listening to the show on February 2nd. I watched the movie of the same name starring Bill Murray last night just to celebrate. That is a movie that I have always enjoyed. Perhaps one day I will even use the idea of a continuous looping day or moment in a story. You just never know. As you may know, I had stories appear in two anthologies in 2013. The first anthology was Lucky or Unlucky: 13 Stories of Fate. I interviewed the editor, Nila White when we talked about the anthology back in episode 124. This episode, I talk with Charlie Brown, the editor of the second anthology I appeared in. That anthology […]
