Just when I thought I was getting back into the habit of blogging regularly, I realize it has been a month since my last post. How can that possibly be? Where has the time gone?
It would be easy to say I’ve been busy. I mean, I have been busy with work, home, Scouts and, happily, writing. I have been able to maintain a regular writing cadence. In the month of May, I wrote almost every day; 27 of 31 days. That added an extra 11, 000 words to my work.
After too long without a regular writing schedule, it feels really good to have this progress. I say that knowing I usually write a lot more in a given session (e.g. during NaNoWriMo I was averaging over 2,000 words per day. Right now I’m doing about 450). Through that lens, I could be doing a lot better.
And, I know I will.
Mik Murdoch Progress
I’m still making great progression Mik Murdoch 5. I have added several new scenes and chapters and the non-linear writing is working so far. It has also spawned more ideas that I will incorporate into the book. We will see how nicely it all comes together in a couple months.
Will I Be Able to Blog More?
I’m hoping I will be able to get back to a more regular blogging schedule. That was the original intent and I need to focus more on doing it. That almost certainly means breaking out the calendar to add additional tasks (I’m pretty task/goal oriented in case you haven’t heard).
That is going to be necessary because I have vacation coming up along with moving some people and working on some additional renovations. Without a proper task breakdown (yes, I’m also a Project Manager in real life along with a lot of other things) and schedule, things will, once again, begin to fall by the wayside. I’ve forgotten that life, like work, is a series of
projects, so I need to adjust my focus a little.
Writing Update
I’ve given you most of the breakdown above. At the moment, I am focused almost entirely on Mik Murdoch 5. When my writing partner gets done his latest submission to our Jack Kane 3 book, I’ll have to adjust focus fora short while, working on that book. Once I turn it back to him (he does a chapter, then passes it to me at which point I write a chapter and pass it back. Then the cycle continues until the book is done) I’ll get back to Mik 5.
I have several other books in the wings as I’ve talked about before. Once I have Mik 5 in draft form, I’ll let it sit for a month while I begin plotting out the next book. Once the plotting is complete, I’ll begin revisions.
