Why Did I Write a Third Book?
Why did I write Scouts of the Apocalypse: Zombie Masters? To be honest, when I first told the Scouts of the Apocalypse story around the campfire, I never imagined there would be a second, let a lone a third book. In fact, I didn’t tell the story with a book in mind at all. It was simply an idea I had while driving out to camp that I was forced to make into a story due to extremely bad ghost stories. ๐
What got me to actually write the first book was the response from my Scouts. They were so taken by the story, I HAD to write it.
The second book, Scouts of the Apocalypse: Zombie Warย was an extension of the first (I sort of cliff hangered the first). As I wrote the first book I realized there was a lot of story left that I hadn’t told the Scouts. In fact, there was so much story, it took an entire book to finish that piece of it.
The third book,ย Scouts of the Apocalypse: Zombie Masters, really brings the story arc to a conclusion. We saw the beginning of the apocalypse in book one. In book two we were able to battle the zombies with some hope of winning and book three? Well, I can only say we finally learn why the apocalypse started in the first place.
Writing it allowed me to give my characters and my readers some closure. It also gave me the opportunity to revisit places I have been in my Scouting career. It was really fun to write.
Will there be More?
I will say this: I left threads dangling as I try to do with every story I write. Because that is how life goes. I think if, when our personal stories are done, we have no dangling threads we only existed at the end. Somewhere along the way we stopped living.
My editor, naturally picked up on those threads and suggested more story lines. That begs the question, will there be another Scouts of the Apocalypse book? Not in this trilogy. This story arc is complete. If I were to ever write more they would have entirely new characters with entirely new problems.
I hope you enjoy the series.
