Day 26 – The end is nigh

The end is nigh. Not in an apocalyptic way, but in a “end of the 2023 NaNoWriMo challenge” way. That’s not a bad thing by any means. I made the last minute decision to join NaNo to try and jumpstart my book, Mik Murdoch 5.

I’ve done that. In fact, when I hit the 50,000 word mark, I will also be close to typing “The End” in the book. I would say that is reason to celebrate!

I think it is also the end of my writing slump. When I was forced to work from home full time four years ago, it marked a dark period where I had no space in my head for creativity. Time I had. Just no ability to use it for writing.

I focused on other creative activities and family to get through the difficult time. Those things managed to keep me sane (more or less).

As I close in on the end of NaNo and the end of my book’s first draft, I feel like I’ve turned a corner.

The passion is back!

As I mentioned in my last post, my passion for story telling is back. I am going to take December and at least part of January to plot out the next few books (not to mention begin Mik 5 edits).

If I am very lucky, I will have at least one book published in 2024. I say lucky because, for those of you who haven’t gone through a publishing cycle yet, it can be very long. Years long in some cases.

I have let one of my publishers know about what I’m working on – hoping they have room for the finished book(s) in their 2024 publishing schedule.

What else is coming?

That’s a loaded question. One thing I know I didn’t did well over the past few years is maintain this website. I have posted occasionally but not on any sort of set schedule.

That is going to change.

I will do my best to post weekly (at least) and talk about my work, challenges and learnings. If you want to hear anything else, let me know. My comments are open but require registration. That isn’t so I can spam you, to be clear. When my comments were wide open you would be amazed at the amount of crap I received on a daily basis that took my time to clear.
