I constantly ask myself when I should promote a story or book. Do I wait until the it is actually available for pre-order, order or do I use some other criteria?
I guess the question is more important to me because I grew up in the era when computer software was always being announced and promoted months and even years in advance. Sometimes the software actually appeared but often it did not. It was called promoting vaporware and I hated the practice. I simply don’t want to do that to my readers and followers. When I tell you a book or story is coming, it is coming.
I can talk about Mik Murdoch: The Power Withing with a lot of confidence. The edits are complete, the cover is complete and I have the galley in my hands. I am proofing it for a June 30th deadline and I know it will be ready. In fact, Five Rivers is already starting to talk about it on their webpage, Twitter and sites like LibraryThing.
That tells me I should, nay must, start promoting it myself.
Let me begin by saying, this is a book I originally wrote several years ago. I had written Mik Murdoch: Boy Superhero the year before and I was eager to work with the character again. I wrote it and was reasonably happy with the result.
When Mik Murdoch: Boy Superhero came out I learned a lot. Enough, in fact, that I decided to keep most of the plot elements and totally rewrite the original book. What resulted is what I consider to be a much better book and worthy sequel to the first.
So, onto the book itself.
Mik Murdoch is a young boy who decides to become a superhero in the first book. He is reckless, kind and considerate. In many ways, he is the boy I wish I had been. The first book ends with Mik at the cusp of achieving his dream.
Mik Murdoch: The Power Within continues from the first, several months later. Mik decides it is time to claim his superpower. Unfortunately, things don’t go exactly as planned and Mik is struggling to handle the new abilities. His family, not understanding the root of his struggles take him away to the lake for the summer. Once there, Mik discovers a lot of new things including a centuries-old mystery and how he can become a superhero.
I need your help
I have had a number of people read and enjoy the book but my reach is extremely limited. I would love to be on other people’s blogs, podcasts, television and radio shows or whatever medium you might have. If you are willing to read and review the story, please email me and I will get you an eCopy of the book in whatever format you require.
Tell your friends. Tell your kids. Tell your kid’s friends and teachers and librarians and the guy walking down the street. Tell everyone about the book and help me spread the word.
And, if you see anyone promoting the book, please let me know so I can link to it.
Thank you in advance. I truly appreciate anything you can do to help.
